A Hidden Speakeasy and Whiskey Bar in Center Valley, PA
The Challenge & The Vision
The Center Valley homeowners desired a private retreat accessible only through their newly designed lower-level media room. The vision required a specialized environment to beautifully display an extensive spirits collection while maintaining a sophisticated atmosphere. By leveraging our bar cabinetry expertise and collaborating with Swine Design LLC, the Laslo team delivered a highly customized lounge featuring precise custom millwork with integrated lighting.
The Bespoke Speakeasy Transformation
Because manufactured cabinets cannot easily accommodate custom recessed bottle displays or precise alcove dimensions, we utilized our hybrid fabrication mechanism. The cabinetry is built from paint-grade maple, chosen for its smooth surface and exceptional ability to hold premium opaque finishes.

Our craftsmen milled the cabinetry utilizing a flush inset construction method with Blum inset hinges. The entire structure was finished in SW7046 Anonymous paint with a dull sheen, establishing a serene, enveloping aesthetic. We paired this premium finish with a striking Blue Dunes granite countertop and matching back panel featuring a unique leathered texture. The design incorporates recessed lighting strategically placed to illuminate the bottles from above, optimizing the visual impact of the homeowners’ collection.

Take the Interior Tour
“When designing a dark, moody space like a speakeasy, texture and lighting are everything. Pairing a flat, dull paint finish like SW7046 Anonymous with a highly textured leathered granite creates a deliberate contrast. Adding recessed channel lighting directly above the shelving ensures your collection stands out brilliantly against the backdrop” — Neil Laslo, Owner, Laslo Custom Kitchens

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost of a custom whiskey bar in Lehigh Valley?
What paint color is used on these bar cabinets? This specific project utilizes Sherwin-Williams SW7046 Anonymous. We applied it with a dull sheen to create a dark, serene backdrop that prevents harsh light reflections and perfectly complements the leathered granite.
What is the best granite for a dark speakeasy? We highly recommend Blue Dunes granite with a leathered finish. The textured, non-reflective surface hides fingerprints and water spots beautifully, making it an incredibly durable and stylish choice for active beverage stations.
Do you build hidden speakeasies and secret rooms? Absolutely. We regularly partner with interior designers and Center Valley custom kitchen cabinet makers to fabricate and install specialized architectural features, including concealed doors and fully customized private lounges.
Can you install recessed lighting in bar shelves? Yes, integrated lighting is essential for displaying glassware and spirits. This project features a custom recessed lighting system installed directly into the paint-grade maple shelving to softly illuminate the homeowner’s collection.
How are custom speakeasy cabinets constructed? We build them utilizing an exact flush inset construction method. This means the solid doors and slab drawer fronts sit perfectly flush within the 2 1/4 inch face frames, providing a highly tailored, furniture-grade appearance.
